There has been a lot of chatter out there on some of the PMC blogs regarding checking out
teachers certifications.  Being certified used to mean that you created 7 PMC projects and passed
the requirements of the organization that sponsored that class.  It no longer is set up the same
way and as a result there are certifications out there that will pass you with as little as 3 projects.
That might be great for some but it diminished the hard work Certified Artist used to accomplish.
Certifications "discount" is also minimal.  Maybe 6% at best.  Mitsubishi did not build into the clay a
wholesale value so you don't have to be certified to get that discount.  Rio Grande offers the 6%
(or so) discount if you buy more than 10 pieces of one product.
The big thing to also remember is that being certified does NOT make you a good teacher.  A
good teacher is someone who has the technical knowledge and understands how the clay works,
YES!   But you also need to be creative, enthusiastic, passionate and be able to take all of those
qualities and infuse your students with excitement and wonderment about the clay.  As I have said
before, I don't consider myself a "great" artist, but I am a "great" teacher.  Read or post a review
at www.pmcguild.com.

DBD Art Studios
Frederick Maryland
Well after a year on construction DBD Art Studios is finally open.  Yes, the siding still isn't
on the building, but the ceiling is in and the walls are painted and....most importantly all
the tools are in place.

We had our grand opening on May 16th with quests from as far away as the Delaplaine
Virginia and beyond.  We shared our creations while great artists like Nancy Duvall-Vest
and Marjorie Barnes did demonstrations.  What a great evening.  Thanks to all of you for
joining us.

So finally we are in full swing.  September 2008 will see all new classes from Beginners to
Advanced.  New all day workshops featuring some old favorites as well as some new
items.  PMC Bronze will be featured as well as Faux Bone, Prisma Color Pencils, Working
with Polymer Clay, Resins, Sterling and PMC combinations and WHISTLES!!!  DBD has
invited some really great artists such as Donna "The Whistle Queen" Penoyer to come
and teach us this great technique.  Local Artists such as Marjorie Barnes will be showing
us Sterling and PMC as well as Riveting, Prisma Colors and working with Resins.  This fall
is going to be a great time at DBD so I hope you will consider joining us.  If you are
interested in something specific and don't see it on the class schedule, drop me an e-mail
and we can create something special just for you.
