This new amazing material is Bronze in a clay form. Similar to Metal clays the
affects are amazing. Roll it, texture it, stamp it, slump it, Bronzclay is just
fabulous. I absolutely love this stuff.
The colors that you can get from the firing process is very similar to Liver of
Sulphar patinas that you can get with the pure silver metal clay..however the
colors are actually baked into the piece. And the same with LOS you can not
predict how your piece will come out. A beautiful bright gold tone, deep bronze
look and even reds, blues and greens can make your pieces come alive.
The big difference between the silver clay and the new bronze clay is really the
firing process. The bronze takes 9 hours and has to be fired in a sealed
container full of charcoal. With the silver you didn't even need a kiln to produce
beautiful small pieces, but with the new bronze...kiln is a must have.
The upcoming 3 week Bronze class will include everything from textures and
stamping to slumping, 3D pieces and adding PMC elements to your piece. Now
one thing that is clear is that adding PMC to the Bronze is a very iffy prospect.
So instead of trying to "fire" your PMC into your bronze we will talk about ways of
accenting your Bronze piece with clasps, jump rings and other overlays to add
that shine of silver to your pieces. The two week class is less intensive but you
still come away with a great understanding of the metal.
